Summer Work & Travel

Join the J1 Summer Work and Travel to immerse yourself in American culture and create impactful relationships and gain valuable work experience this summer 2026.

Program Overview

The Summer Work and Travel enable post-secondary students to share their culture and ideas with the people of the United States in work setting throughout the country. Participants in the program receive pay and benefits, commensurate to their American counterparts at their job. The program is scheduled for 4 months. After the program is complete, participants have 30 days to travel and explore the United States before they need to depart the country.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for the SWT program, you must 

  • be 18-30 years old. 
  • be registered as a full-time student at an accredited university or other state recognized institution of post-secondary education. The degree/diploma course on which you are registered must be at least 2 years in duration. You must have completed at least one semester of study. Students on post-graduate courses which are less than two years can also be accepted (e.g. master's courses). "Gap year" students or high school graduates are not eligible. 
  • undergo an interview conducted by a staff member and/or a partner organization either in person or virtually (for example, zoom). 
  • be able to prove that you will return home at the end of the program by showing ties to your home country. 
  • be able to pay the following fees: Membership Fee $3,500JMD & Program Fee $1,910USD 

Application Process

Step 1: Pay Membership Fee & Program Fee Deposit

  •  Interested clients must pay their Membership Fee of $3,500JMD at the below account: Note: The below account is a JMD account and fees must be paid in JMD Dollars.

  • Interested clients must pay their Program Fee Deposit of $500USD at the below account:  Note: The below account is a US account and fees must be paid in US Dollars.

Once payment has been made, ensure to have photo or a scanned copy of your receipt. 

Step 2: Submit Your Application

Submit your application for the J-1 Summer Work & Travel Program. Ensure to have the list of items before submitting your application. They are: 

  • Payment Receipts of Membership Fee & Program Fee Deposit.
  • Digital Passport Photo (This is taken at passport photo studio)
  • A scanned copy of your passport bio page.
  • A copy of your CV/Resume. 
  • Status Letter: Proof of your status as a student (College or University) with minimum GPA 2.0. 
  • Print, signed and scanned the Agency: J-1 Summer Work and Travel Program Terms and Conditions. You can download the terms and condition it here.

Step 3: Application Processing & Pre-screening Interview

Please allow the agent 3-5 business days to process your application, upon completion the agent will issue you a receipt for payment. If you should have any questions, please email us at apply@thepassportja.com  

Step 4: Complete Your Interview with Host Employer & Pay your remaining Program Fee.

Once Lifetraveled has confirmed your placement, you will be required to pay your remaining fees and provide any outstanding documents. Note: The following fees will be due in 5 business days, remaining Program fee of $1,410USD.  

Step 5: Secure Your J-1 Visa

Secure your J-1 Visa at the U.S. Embassy and book your travel! The Passport Work and Travel Services Limited will walk you through the embassy interview process to give you the best chance of securing your visa. Once you receive your visa, you will coordinate with your sponsor on the who, what, where, and when of your arrival.
